Section default policyReview
Review Articles published in Advanced Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (AIST) journal represent a cornerstone of our mission to advance scholarly discourse by providing comprehensive, authoritative, and critical syntheses of mature, rapidly evolving, or particularly complex fields of research. These articles are not merely descriptive summaries of existing literature but are intended to be significant scholarly contributions in their own right. They must offer a novel conceptual framework, a critical evaluation of the current state of the field, identify key challenges and controversies, synthesize disparate strands of research into a cohesive new perspective, and clearly outline future research directions and unanswered questions. To be considered, a Review must address a topic of sufficient scope and importance to interest a broad cross-section of our interdisciplinary readership, and the subject area must have accumulated a critical mass of published research to warrant such a synthesis; purely speculative pieces or reviews on nascent fields with limited literature are discouraged. We typically expect that potential authors are established experts with a proven publication record in the subject area of the review, as this expertise is essential for providing the necessary depth of analysis, critical insight, and authoritative perspective. Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to first submit a pre-submission inquiry to the Editorial Office, including a detailed abstract and a concise outline, to ensure the topic aligns with the journal's scope and current editorial priorities before undertaking the significant effort of preparing a full manuscript.
The editorial process for Review Articles is exceptionally rigorous to maintain the high standards of scholarship and utility our readership expects. All submitted Reviews undergo initial editorial assessment for scope, originality, and overall interest, and only those deemed to have significant potential are sent for formal peer review. The peer review process is double-anonymous and involves multiple experts in the field who are asked to evaluate the manuscript's comprehensiveness, objectivity, analytical depth, and clarity. Reviewers assess whether the authors have fairly and accurately represented the field, including acknowledging competing theories or contradictory evidence where they exist, rather than presenting a biased view that exclusively favors their own work. The synthesis of the literature must be transformative, not just additive; a simple chronological list of discoveries is unacceptable. The review must also be timely, citing the most recent relevant literature to ensure its immediate utility to researchers. Given the extensive nature of these submissions, the revision process can be lengthy and may involve multiple rounds of revision to address the detailed critiques from both reviewers and editors. Ultimately, a successful Review Article in [Journal Name] will serve as an essential reference, a foundational educational resource for students and new investigators, and a catalyst for future innovation by clearly defining the frontiers of knowledge and inspiring new lines of inquiry within the field.
Highlights
Research Highlights published in Advanced Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (AIST) serve as a critical tool for amplifying the reach, accessibility, and impact of the most significant and innovative research we publish. This section is dedicated to concise, engaging summaries that distill the essence of a select few Articles, Reviews, or occasionally Notes, chosen by the Editorial Board for their exceptional novelty, interdisciplinary importance, or potential for broad scientific and societal influence. The primary objective is to translate complex, specialized research findings into a clear and compelling narrative that is immediately accessible to a wide, cross-disciplinary academic audience, including senior researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers who may not be specialists in the article's specific sub-field. Each Highlight functions as a strategic portal to the full manuscript, designed to capture attention and communicate why the research matters. Consequently, they are not merely abbreviated abstracts but are crafted with a journalistic flair to emphasize the "why" and the "so what" of the work, focusing on the central advance and its implications without requiring the reader to navigate technical jargon, methodological details, or extensive data. The creation of Highlights is an integral part of our publication process for accepted papers, initiated at the discretion of the Editors-in-Chief and handled through a collaborative effort between the authors of the original work and the journal's editorial team to ensure accuracy, clarity, and promotional efficacy.
The authorship, content, and style of AIST Research Highlights are governed by a strict policy to maintain the highest standards of scholarly communication and ethical promotion. While the intellectual impetus and foundational content are derived directly from the accepted manuscript, the drafting process is a collaborative endeavor. Authors of the selected paper are strongly encouraged to submit a first draft, as they possess the deepest understanding of their work's core contribution; this draft is then rigorously edited and refined by our professional in-house science editors and technical editors, who specialize in crafting language for interdisciplinary consumption and SEO optimization. The final product, which must receive explicit approval from the corresponding author before publication, is a succinct, stand-alone text of approximately 100-150 words. It must be structured to immediately state the research's context and challenge, followed by a clear declaration of the key advance using non-specialist language, and conclude with a powerful statement on the broader impact or future potential of the work. Crucially, Highlights must avoid overstatement and hype, remaining scrupulously faithful to the evidence and conclusions presented in the peer-reviewed source material. They must not contain new data, interpretations, or claims that are not present in the accepted manuscript. Upon publication, each Highlight is strategically deployed across the journal's digital platforms, given prominent positioning on the article's homepage, and disseminated through the journal's social media channels and email alerts to maximize visibility and drive readership to the full text, thereby fulfilling its role as a vital bridge between groundbreaking interdisciplinary research and the global scientific community.
